A Move for the Ages

Our "Pictures of the Week" take us to a frozen soybean field near Baxter where Brock Hansen, with the help of friends and family, completed a move for the ages.

Hansen and eight others worked several days to move a barn that was built in 1923 from a Heritage Farm (150 years) site to Hansen's acreage, which has been designated a Century Farm site. To complete the move, the workers navigated the barn almost two miles across frozen farm fields at a top speed of 1.8 mph.

Hansen originally planned on dismantling the barn and using the wood in other projects but after talking with his wife decided to move the barn to their home. The Hansens plan on using the barn as a home for their children's 4-H animal projects.

To say the least, the barn moving became the talk of the small town in a hurry.
