Autumn in Osage: Where Heritage Meets Hospitality

By Annie Greve, Evolution of the Heartland

Experience the charm of Osage with Evolution of the Heartland on Friday, September 19. The day begins at the historic Cedar Valley Seminary, a landmark woven into the community for more than 160 years and now home to Old Central Coffee, event spaces, and a Culinary Center that blends heritage with hospitality. From there, you’ll visit Twisted River Farm, a three-acre market farm in Mitchell dedicated to making fresh, organic produce and flowers easy to enjoy year-round. The morning continues at Limestone Brewers, a lively community hub on Main Street where craft beer, handmade pizza, axe throwing and a golf simulator make it a true local favorite.

At midday, indulge in a farm-to-table lunch at Taste, the chef-driven destination of Jes Baldus. With seasonal menus and creative dishes rooted in regional flavors, this reservation-only restaurant is paired with The Market, Bakery, Piggyback Smoke Shack and the hidden Blind Pig Speakeasy, making it a culinary hub unlike any other in rural Iowa.

In the afternoon, participants will explore the blooms and garden inspiration at Stillwater Greenhouse and then head to Mitchell County Conservation’s Nature Center and Museum, where more than 3,000 acres of trails, waterways and educational programs highlight the natural beauty and history of the region. The day closes with an intimate stop at the Blind Pig Speakeasy, a hidden gem offering a vintage vibe and handcrafted cocktails.

Make it a full weekend and return Saturday, September 20th, for Autumn Artistry, Osage’s celebration of creativity and community. Stroll through booths of local artists and artisans, shop antiques and seasonal décor, enjoy live music and delicious foods, and experience one of the region’s largest car shows alongside a vibrant farmers market. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Osage at its best!
