Iowa is known for its rich farmland, hardworking farmers and commitment to feeding the nation. But beyond the rows of corn and soybean fields lies a flavorful story, one where agriculture meets hospitality in unforgettable ways. To celebrate Iowa’s deep agricultural roots and the incredible food and drink it helps create, CommonGround Iowa presents its third annual Farm to Fork Road Trip. This self-guided tour celebrates five award-winning food and drink stops. Each destination is specially selected by CommonGround Iowa followers and Iowa’s commodity groups, earning them a well-deserved place on the map and in Iowans’ hearts, minds and stomachs.
What makes this road trip unique? It’s not just about great food (though there’s plenty of that). It’s about connecting every delicious dish back to the farmers who make it possible. From the dairy farms of northeast Iowa to the grain fields of the south, every stop showcases the rich, diverse and delicious impact of Iowa agriculture.
Why It Matters
Every stop on the Farm to Fork Road Trip reinforces a simple yet powerful truth: agriculture is everywhere. From the corn in your bourbon to the dairy in your ice cream and the beef in your burger, Iowa farmers are behind every delicious experience. These restaurants, bakeries and distilleries aren’t just businesses; they’re bridges between farm and fork.
Behind every dish is an Iowa farmer. CommonGround Iowa, a volunteer network of farm women, is committed to closing the gap between producers and consumers by sharing honest, firsthand insight into food and farming. Many of our volunteers are moms who care deeply about feeding their own families quality, affordable meals, and they’re always ready to answer questions and have honest conversations about how food is grown and raised.
So, the next time you take a bite or sip of something Iowa-made, take a moment to think about the hands that made it possible, from the farmers in the fields to the cooks in the kitchen. Agriculture isn’t just Iowa’s backbone; it’s the secret ingredient in every memorable meal.
